Oklahoma Republican State Representative George Faught on defense of a new anti-abortion bill is quoted,
It’s a great question to ask, and, obviously if it happens in someone’s life, it may not be the best thing that ever happened. But, so you’re saying that God is not sovereign with every activity that happens in someone’s life and can’t use anything and everything in someone’s life, and I disagree with that.
The question had been posed if he felt or believed rape and incest were part of God’s will. He is not the first conservative christian republican to state something like this. In fact, many of the anti-abortion politicians have said things like this to defend against women having complete body autonomy. My question is, though, they are christian – that means typically they believe in God and Satan – so why are such heinous acts such as rape and incest not shouldered to Satan if they are going to go this route?
Oh, maybe it’s because heinous acts toward women and children do not fall under what they would consider as the work of Satan. I think for these particular people, Satan’s work is gay, trans, gender nonconforming – anything that doesn’t fit into the mold of one man one woman marriage, but if that one man chooses to rape a woman or sexually molest a family member, he was just doing the work of God.
This man also stated rape was in the Bible. So I guess in his mind that makes it A-okay.
I feel we need a progressive stance. We have freedom of religion in this country, yet because of the founders, we have a very Christian mindset when it comes to politics and rules. There needs to be a separation of politics and religion. We need to stop relying on the Bible and outdated amendments of the past and look at our present. We have evolved since then. Time to update and get with the program of here and now.
